Welcome to the Funky Ant Lab!
We are community and ecosystem ecologists interested in how biotic systems are structured, maintained and how they respond to disturbances. Current research in the lab is focused on exploring diversity change along gradients (elevation & precipitation), and the role of biodiversity in ecosystem functioning. We work in a range of environments but mostly in the tropics and sub-tropics, from montane grasslands, to rainforests, to savannas.
If you are interested in joining the lab please get in touch.
Why the name 'Funky Ant'?
It all started many moons ago....
The lab PI (Kate) has always had an interest in ants. And, of course, they are especially funky.
Nowadays we work on all kinds of questions and different taxa. But we still think ants are funky, and so the name has stuck.
** ANT IDENTIFICATION COURSE **
We will be running a workshop at Wits Rural, Hoedspruit from 11 - 16th March 2018
